“There is a new set of activists in town and they are called ONE Champions! Guess what, I am one of them!! Hurray!!” – Adegbile Mayowa
This February, ONE Africa welcomed our second cohort of ONE Champions in Nigeria! These Champions will work closely with the ONE Africa team to help in the fight against extreme poverty and inequality.
ONE Champions are vibrant, committed group of volunteers who work to support ONE Africa’s advocacy work. They lobby decision makers, support with recruiting and managing members in their clusters, support media advocacy efforts, and mobilise public support for ONE issues.
This year our program nearly tripled in size to 50 amazing Champions from six different regions across Nigeria: North Central, North East, North West, South East, South South, and South West. This will guarantee that we get all citizen’s voices alive and active throughout the different regions of Nigeria.
Our Champions aim to empower citizens, drive change in their own ways and begin conversations with their policymakers on how things can be improved in their communities. Through this program, our Champions also help us reach networks of members who share the same passion and dedication to realize change.
This year, ONE Champions will support our work around ensuring Nigeria invests more in the health sector and that the resources allocated there will be used in the most transparent ways.
