My name is Amb Emmanuel Gabari. I am a television and radio broadcaster. I am from Nigeria and proudly a ONE Champion. Its amazing being part of the ONE family, knowing you are also part of a community championing the cause to eradicating extreme poverty.
One of the things I love doing whenever I am not on air, is singing. I am also a musician who released his first album titled “You Are My Everything” a few years back. Music gives me an opportunity to express myself and pass inspirational messages that broadcasting might not be able to.
“ONE World ONE Family” was a song I wrote for the ONE Campaign when we were preparing to travel to France for the ONE Youth Summit. Prior to the Paris trip, I was in the studio producing songs for my second album. One Sunday afternoon while doing my phone in-television show, a fan called and asked why I always talk about peace and unity in all my programs. I replied that without peace and unity, we won’t achieve much in life but if everyone plays their part the world would be a better place for all of us. So while driving back home from work, the inspiration hit me. The chorus lines first came to me and I had to pull my car off the road, brought out my phone, and started singing the chorus line:
“You And I, Are The Ones To Make A Change;
You And I, Are The Ones To Make The World, A Better Place;
You And I, Are The Ones To Put Things Right;
One World One Family”
I kept humming those lines while going back home so I don’t forget them. The next day, I called the music studio to book sessions for the recording. It took us some days to get what I wanted.
I presented the song to ONE and they allowed me to present it during a session at the Summit. Hmmmm, now the big challenge was the apprehension I felt while we took off to Paris. So many burning thoughts and questions ran through my mind. I asked myself; will my fellow ONE Ambassadors like the song? Will it make sense to them in a world where people hardly listen to meaningful inspirational songs? Will delegates understand how important it is for them to keep upholding the vision that ONE stands for? So many questions but my saving grace was that the Summit was very busy; attending multiple sessions, moving from one program venue to another, so that helped me a lot in taking my mind off some thoughts.
Then my moment came. The lady who anchored the program announced to the delegates that there would be a performance of a theme song written and produced by a ONE Champion from Nigeria. She called my name and gave me the microphone, and from the moment I started singing, delegates danced, clapped and gave me a thunderous standing ovation when I finished performing the song. Awesome! Amazing!! Whoop whoop!!!
Later in the evening when we all went to another location for our group cocktail dinner, the delegates requested I sing the song again they had to meet the DJ of the place, gave him my song. Once again the delegates were all singing along.
I want to thank God Almighty for His gift, I also want to thank the ONE Community (both Champions and Ambassadors all over), and to my fans, friends and well-wishers.
